Heavy Snow Expected To Hit Tokyo Region

February 1, 2018 –┬áMore snow is predicted to hit the Tokyo metropolitan area between today and tomorrow, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) announced.

According to the JMA, falling temperatures caused by an area of low pressure moving across the sea south of Japan’s central Honshu island have led to the latest snow forecast.

It is predicted that snow might accumulate in all of Tokyo’s 23 wards — which would follow on from earlier snowfall across the capital on Jan. 22 — prompting the JMA to urge people to exercise caution.

The agency has also stated that the area of low pressure that has developed close to Okinawa Prefecture is likely to progress across the sea south of the Japanese archipelago, before heading in an east-northeasterly direction.

Rain and snow are forecast for parts of the Kanto region starting this afternoon, while metropolitan Tokyo may see snow tomorrow. The JMA has urged caution over possible public transportation snarls due to the weather.
