May 15, 2015 – Four gunmen linked to the Abu Sayyaf rebel group stormed into a popular eatery in the east of Sabah, and abducted its manager and a customer, Malaysian police said last night.
The raid took place at the seaside Ocean King Seafood Restaurant in the town of Sandakan at around 8pm local time. The gunmen fled by boat less than a minute later, with the abductees, the local paper added.
Currently, an operation is reportedly underway to locate the attackers. One of the suspects was armed with an automatic rifle and had bullets strapped on his chest, said an eye witness.
Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) chief Abdul Rashid Harun said the investigation is ongoing but declined to provide further information.
