Second Funeral Held For Australians Executed In Indonesia

May 8, 2015 – More than 1,000 people attended the Sydney funeral for Myuran Sukumaran, who was executed by firing squad in Indonesia 10 days ago.

Sukumaran, 34, was convicted 10 years ago for drug smuggling along with his fellow drug ringleader Andrew Chan, who was executed alongside him and buried yesterday.

Sukumaran had become a painter during his time in jail awaiting the death sentence to be carried out, and five of his paintings were on display placed in front of the congregation.

Friend and artist Ben Quilty said Sukumaran died with courage and dignity, and praised his artworks.

“Under unimaginable circumstances, Myuran was making the most potent and powerful anti-death penalty images the world has seen in a long, long time,” Quilty said.
