Asian Festival Of Speed Held In Jakarta For Second Year Running

David Sonenscher, the CEO of the event organizing company, Motorsport Asia told the Jakarta Post “This is the second year Asia’s premier racing event has come to Sentul, after last year. This race is similar to Formula One in many respects, with the high level of the participating drivers and a very strong championship,” on Thursday.

The Asian Festival of Speed typically consists of four separate series; the Asian Touring Car Series, the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, the Formula BMW Asia and the Formula V6 Asia.

Sonenscher said that there would be drivers hailing from a minimum of twenty different countries and areas competing in this years’ event.

Irawan Sucahyono, the secretary general of the Indonesia Motorsport Association said that “This race is very competitive, despite its name as the Asian championships, given that the event is also open to participants from countries outside Asia”.

He went on to say that he believed the race would provide good opportunities for drivers from Indonesia to be able to pit their abilities against a decent level of competition in an international setting.
Satrio Hermanto and Zahir Ali are expected to be the main drivers representing Indonesia at the event that begins next month.

Hermanto will be driving on behalf of Team Meritus in the Formula V6 Asia event and is expected to come up against a strong level of competition from American competitor, Seth Ingham, who is currently the championship point leader as well as Briton, James Winslow, Armaan Ebrahim from India, Hanss Lin from Chinese Taipei and New Zealander, Earl Bamber who was the 2006 BMW Asia Champion.

Michelin, the sponsor for the event said that it would be giving away 10 thousand tickets in order to guarantee the events success.
